Code of Conduct for Care and Support Workers

Respect and Dignity

  • Treat care seekers, their families, and representatives with respect and dignity at all times.

  • Provide care that is culturally sensitive and considerate of the care seeker’s background, religion, and values.

  • Deliver support in a safe, ethical, and inclusive manner—free from discrimination, harassment, abuse, or exploitation.

  • Ensure lawful and informed consent has been obtained from the care seeker or their representative before providing care.

Professionalism

  • Always act in a professional manner and in the best interests of the care seeker.

  • Report any concerns about the conduct of another care or support worker that could place a care seeker at serious risk of harm.

  • Keep written records accurate, timely, and legible.

  • Respond appropriately and promptly in the event of an incident to minimise harm—this may include administering first aid, contacting emergency services, and reporting the incident to the relevant authority.

  • Keep your documentation, police checks, registrations, and qualifications up to date.

Ethics

  • Engage with care seekers honestly and ethically at all times.

  • Do not misrepresent your services, qualifications, training, or affiliations—either in person or on the Aided Hearts platform.

  • Never provide care or support while under the influence of alcohol or unlawful substances.

  • Comply fully with the Aided Hearts platform’s terms and conditions.

Conflicts of Interest & Financial Conduct

  • Do not accept gifts or request money or valuables from care seekers.

  • Never seek to benefit—directly or indirectly—from the care seeker’s finances or estate.

  • Refrain from engaging in any sexual, romantic, or otherwise inappropriate personal relationships with care seekers.

Health and Safety

  • Provide care in a manner that is safe, responsible, and aligned with current legislation and best practices.

  • Exercise due diligence and take reasonable steps to protect the safety and wellbeing of both care seekers and colleagues.

Privacy

  • Respect and protect the confidentiality of all personal and health-related information.

  • Adhere to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and any other applicable state or territory health privacy legislation.
